Ethics

I started Buy Bye Tech as a means to enjoy and immerse myself in the technology that fascinates me. Experiencing the latest tech has always been a passion of mine and I want to share those moments and thoughts with anyone interested in listening. Specifically with everyday, normal people who aren’t as connected to technology as I am. This was inspired by friends and family who often ask for my advice whenever they needed to make a tech buying decision. It was through these conversations where I learned that all the “specs” and fancy buzz words companies use to describe their products often confuse regular, everyday customers just looking for something that fits their needs. It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of something new and flashy in the world of tech and even easier to have someone sell you something when you’re in that state of excitement or wonder. I should know because I myself have been in sales for over two decades. Understandably, that’s enough to give someone pause when seeing any of my content. Especially when, from time to time, you’ll see me recommend and provide links to purchase products. But that is also why this ethics page is important for anyone supporting or following Buy Bye Tech. It is a means to be fully transparent with any income this platform makes in an effort to continue making trustworthy content for you.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you enjoy the work I do and that this statement earns your trust and support.

Before we get started…

…is more than likely what you will hear at the beginning of any video or post where any disclosures need to be made. For example: “Before we get started, this video is sponsored by [Company]” or “[Company] sent me this product free of charge.”

Sponsored Content

If I do not explicitly state that a video or post is sponsored, then it is not sponsored.  I prefer not to create sponsored work, however, if I do choose to work with a brand it will always be because I either:

  • Use their product(s) myself and/or…
  • I trust the brand by way of having built a relationship with them based on the mutual understanding that your trust and satisfaction comes first.

So any sponsored content needs to “make sense” for my audience and provide the kind of value you visit Buy Bye Tech for. Sponsors should enable and support what I do. More importantly, this platform will never be an extension of another brand’s marketing department and I will always have the final say on the work I do across any of my platforms.

Free Products

If I do not explicitly state that a company sent me a product, then I purchased the product on my own. I would prefer to purchase every product on my own, however, from time I will accept offers to receive certain products at no cost that I or my audience is interested in. These arrangements allow me to cover products I would otherwise never be able to, simply because I do not have an unlimited budget to cover everything I would want to. This in turn allows me to continue creating content for you. But let me be clear, I DO NOT make videos or posts in exchange for free products. I am selective on what products I accept (again, the product has to “make sense” and provide value to my audience), and after, these products are either used regularly, returned or donated. More importantly, offering free products DOES NOT guarantee a positive review.  My opinions will always be my own and I will always have the final say on the products I cover.

Non-negotiables

Any brand interested in working with Buy Bye Tech must accept these non-negotiables. For trust and transparency, I make this information publicly available to both brands and my audience here:

  • I have complete creative control over my work. I script, create and produce each video or post based off my interests and what I think is relevant to my audience. No outside party can pay or influence me in exchange for any creative control over my work.
  • I will not do sponsored reviews or sponsored comparisons.
  • I do not submit previews of my work for approval or revisions.
  • I have complete control over my calendar. I will work collaboratively when possible when it comes to scheduling however no outside party can pay or influence me in exchange for scheduling priority.
  • Offering me a product at no cost does not guarantee it will be featured or reviewed in a video or post.
  • I do allow sharing my videos, as long as the post links directly to the original video uploaded to my YouTube channel. My videos may not be re-uploaded elsewhere.

In summary, I think integrity is incredibly important and it’s easy to lose that if clear lines are not drawn in the sand with how I decide to create my content. If I have decided to worth with a brand, they have seen and agreed to these non-negotiable items.
